I love this.

time away....

Am taking a little break from the blog for a while.
As much as I love it and love my blog friends, I'm enjoying the (slightly) warmer weather, friends, family, sunshine, and happiness and will be back soon.

Retail Therapy

While in WA Sharni and I decided to do a bit of sight-seeing and retail therapy. I had been told Fremantle was the place to go for op-shops and while there were quite a few, the clothes and things on offer were rather crappy. We did manage to find a few cool boutiques though.

Broken Doll, Vintage & Retro
Loved this store in Fremantle. Full of beautiful little bits and pieces! They had a great collection of vintage clothes and shoes. Sharni and I loved the handmade hair bows and bow brooches.

Lick Art Space
Ultra cool clothes and decked out with some really cool paintings and arty things. The guy in the shop said his girlfriend was the brains behind the design, she obviously has very good taste! Located in Cottesloe.

Spotted a familiar red tag at Store, Gifts & Homewares in Perth. Flew four hours away from Ballarat only to find goodies on sale from the lovely Allison from Lark!

Tilted Couture (PFF)

Emily Cattermole, face of the Perth Fashion Festival

On Tuesday night Sharni and I made our way to The Court Hotel, owned by Perth socialite Bree Mannix. The Tilted Couture show celebrated and showcased the talents of gay, lesbian and gy and lesbian supportive designers such as Ruth Tarvydas, Of Cabbages and Kinds, Chaka, Alister Yiap and Mandi Mac.
The show kicked off with a contortionist and first on stage was Emily Cattermole, crowd favourite and face of PFF. The clothes in the show were amazing, from structured plastic sleeves to soft, flowing dresses.
This was out favourite show we went along to and we met some really cool people there too.

Wearing: vintage sequined butterfly top, Light Lounge Ballarat; skirt, Perth Temt; heels, Rubi shoes.

Me and Sharni hanging out in the media area before the show.

Fashion TV cameraman Warren with freelance fashion photographer John.
John was a really sweet guy we met at the Wheels and Dollbaby show who made origami to kill time before the shows.

Wheels and Dollbaby (PFF)

This week I was lucky enough to head west and check out the Perth Fashion Festival.
I met lots of amazing fash fash people and got to go along to some amazing shows. The pics above are from the Wheels and Dollbaby show that was packed! The clothes were divine and the people were equally gorgeous.
There were a few celebs in the audience (Tara Moss, Eskimo Joe members, Gyroscope, and apparently Ben Cousins) and Sharni and I got all dressed up only to be shoved with the rest of the media at the end of the catwalk, jostling for prime possie.

This is a video I took at the end featuring all the models and designer Melanie Greensmith.

Spring Fling

This spring I've decided to inject a little 90s loving into my wardrobe. I had a few great buys at the op-shops today that I think will become staples as the weather warms up!

The denim shirt is from the Uniting Church op-shop in Sebastopol and set me back $2. The floral skirt on the right was from the same shop and also just $2. It was ankle length so I hacked it a little bit and now it sits just above the knee. I love the buttons and the pockets!

The crazy middle is from the St John's op-shop (pictured below) on Lydiard St Nth. That place is seriously amazing! I shouldn't be sharing it with you guys but I guess I'm in a good mood!
The "skirt" was actually a hideous pair of floral shorts that I unpicked and sewed back together into a skirt. The colours were just so cheery I couldn't resist. It set me back a hefty $1.

A hidden gem! St John's op-shop, Lydiard St Nth.

Finally these are a few things I bought recently that I've fallen in love with. I can already detect a spring colour palette sneaking into my wardrobe....

This beautiful Ladakh dress I bought from Ballarat Myer. Originally $89.95, marked down to $60 and then 50% off. Absolute steal! Going to live in this dress in Perth next week!

White glow-mesh handbag, Salvos Howitt St, $20.

I love the clasp on this bag! The two brown plastic tubes intrigued me and I couldn't pass it up! I paid a little bit more than I usually would for an oppy bag but I really loved this!

Another day at the office...

(photo by Andrew Kelly, copyright The Courier)

On Saturday night I was lucky enough to meet media-darling Ruby Rose before her all-ages gig in Ballarat. I had interviewed her earlier in the week and she was really sweet so it was nice to meet her in person. Our ace photographer Andrew Kelly got this shot before she hit the decks at 21 Arms.

The following day I had a less-than-glam encounter with Christine Nixon. I met her last year when she was still Victoria Police Chief Commission and she was very kind. She was in Daylesford and Bullarto talking to residents about bushfires.

I think this is why I love my job so much. I love being entertainment reporter and getting to meet all the cool people in the industry. But at the same time I get to "get down in the trenches" (to use a friend's words) and do some really important stories.

So while all you fashionistas were at the launch of Melbourne Spring Fashion Week I was keeping it real in Daylesford in my flannie and hoody talking about bushfire prevention ... how about that!
